Thilanka Hotel

Scroll

Hotel Thilanka, surrounded by the mist-veiled Hunnasgiriya mountains and the lush Udawattakelle natural reserve, overlooks the great city of Kandy. Thilanka Hotel, Kandy began as a simple five-bedroom guesthouse in 1978. Guests were served home-cooked meals and treated as family, in the ancient Kandyan tradition of hospitality.

Over the years it grew, into a small hotel by 1983 and gradually into the current 92-room facility. Their primary focus over the years has been to provide the comforts of a Kandyan home with the luxury and modern facilities of a well-reputed hotel, and this is reflected in the locally inspired homely décor, and prioritisation of great service.

There are three room categories: The Royal Pavilion – intricately designed to be elegant and tranquil, and providing beautiful forest views; Suites, equipped with Jacuzzis and living areas, with stunning vistas of the city; and deluxe rooms. The restaurant offers a variety of local and international cuisine, with buffet or a la carte options available. Private dining can also be arranged in locations of your choice for a more memorable experience.

Facilities

Rooms provide minibars, television, Wi-Fi, coffee machine, safe, toiletries and hairdryers.
The hotel has a bar, restaurant and banquet hall, ayurvedic spa, swimming pool and yoga facilities.

Optional Activities

For trekking and bird watching the Udawaththakele Nature Reserve is ideal since its located right next door. You can hire a bicycle and tour the ancient city of Kandy and maybe head towards the close mountain ranges for day hikes. Places of interest include the Temple of the Tooth Relic, the Lankathilake Temple, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens as well as the Victoria Golf Course which is about half an hour away from the city.

Our room was peaceful with lovely light early in the morning before the city stirred. Good buffet and was nice to have a chef preparing fresh omelettes, which we enjoyed eating on the veranda.
