Zanzibar Serena Inn
The Zanzibar Serena Inn in Stone Town has a splendid location overlooking the Indian Ocean and comfortable accommodation in a characterful, historic building. Despite its modern amenities this beautiful hotel, located next to the town beach, has retained much of its original character as a grand house. Its rooms and communal areas are neatly arranged around a large central swimming pool.
There are fifty one en suite rooms scattered throughout the historic building all with private balconies, air-conditioning, satellite TV and telephone, and each is decorated with bright colours and materials typical of Zanzibar.
There is a selection of places to eat and drink at the hotel with two charming restaurants as well as bars and coffee shops for light snacks and drinks. The most spectacular option is the seafood restaurant on the roof terrace which provides an outstanding view of the ocean while you enjoy the fine dining.
Stone Town is the ancient capital of Zanzibar and now a fascinating warren of narrow streets, overhanging balconies and huge, intricately carved wooden doors.

The hotel is close to the largest night market on the island. Head here for the vibrant atmosphere and some good street food. Make sure what you’re buying is freshly cooked and don’t forget to haggle.
