The  escorted Panorama tour begins with the famously vibrant Mount Hagen Show and continues on to some of Papua New Guinea’s most iconic places, the Sepik River region and the Southern Highlands.   The Hagen Show brings together sing sing groups from across Papua New Guinea, with the variety of cultures and groups represented in turn reflecting the diversity of Papua New Guinea’s landscape.   From Mount Hagen, journey through the Sepik region and on to Tari for some excellent birdwatching and the famous Tuli tribe.  New for this year is a visit to Lake Murray to see remote fishing communities and explore the bird-filled rainforests of the lowlands. NB: The itinerary for 2017 is one day longer with an extra night at Ambua Lodge. Itinerary

Price from £9998 per adult. Based on sharing double / twin rooms. Single supplement £915. NB: Single Supplement is Single room EXCEPT at the Rondon Ridge and on board the Sepik Spirit, which will be on a twin share basis.

Day 1 - Depart London

Fly overnight from London to Singapore.

Includes In-flight Meals.

Day 2 - Singapore

Arrive in Singapore and connect with onward flight to Port Moresby.

Includes In-flight Meals.

Day 3 - Port Moresby

Arrive in Port Moresby. Meet with group and transfer to the hotel.

Staying at Airways Hotel. Includes Dinner.

Day 4 - Mount Hagen Show

Transfer to the airport and fly to Mount Hagen. Met on arrival and transfer directly to the Mount Hagen Show – world famous for its Colour, culture and vibrancy. It is a truly spectacular event. The diversity of the coastal, lowland and highlands sing sing groups at the Hagen show reflects the incredible diversity of Papua New Guinea’s landscape. Later, transfer to the lodge.

Day 5 - Mount Hagen Show

Another full day to experience the spectacular Mount Hagen Show.

Day 6 - Lake Murray

Transfer to Mount Hagen airstrip and board charter flight over stunning mountain scenery and down to Lake Murray in the country’s western lowlands. Transfer by boat to the lodge and have lunch and then proceed on with a half day tour.

Day 7 - Lake Murray

A day of ecological and culturally based touring. Visit remote lakeside villages which see very few westerners: a great way to learn about their traditional way of life, culture and fishing techniques.

Day 8 - Karawari

Fly by charter flight to Karawari. Met on arrival and transfer by jet boat to Karawari lodge. This is an area of vast alluvial floodplains, laced with narrow waterways. The Karawari people are the most remote of the floodplains communities. After lunch transfer to the Kundiman village to observe a sago making demonstration (sago is a staple food for the river communities).

Day 9 - Sepik

Transfer to the floating lodge on the Sepik River. After lunch there will be a leisurely exploration of the local villages. Discover the fascinating way of life of the people that still live the same way as they have for done for centuries. The villages are famous for their traditional art and sculpture work created by the local artisans.

Staying at Sepik Spirit. Includes All Meals.

Day 10 - Sepik

A full day of excursions along the mighty river and its tributaries to visit and experience the village life and customs of the communities that live along the banks. There will be plenty of opportunities to buy local crafts and art such as masks, ancestral figures, hand drums, baskets, bilums and gourds. Each village produces its own style of art and craftwork.

Day 11 - Sepik

Another full day of excursions along the mighty river and its tributaries to visit and experience the village life and customs of the communities that live along the banks.

Day 12 - Ambua

Transfer to karawari airstrip and fly by charter flight to Ambua airstrip. Afternoon exploring the area surrounding Ambua. This is the home of the Huli Clans, one of the largest ethnic groups in the Southern Highlands and one of the most culturally intact, in all of PNG. Visits to the renowned TARI GAP could reveal up to 10 species of birds of paradise alone.

Day 13 - Ambua

A day of ecological and culturally based touring sure to satiate those yearning for discovery. The Tari area is home to an incredible 13 species of birds of paradise, as well as numerous orchid species. Learn how the Huli live and how they interact with and use their environment.

Day 14 - Port Moresby

Pick up from the lodge and transfer to the airport. Catch flight to Port Moresby. Met on arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 15 - Singapore

Transfer to the airport and take flight to Singapore. Connect with onward flight to London.

Day 16 - Arrive London

There should never be less than three nights in this sensational location [Ambua Lodge] with a superb climate (hot during the day and cool at night) with very good food, and seeing the amazing Huli Wigmen with their outstanding head-dresses.
