Tamarind Hill
Tamarind Hill is an original colonial mansion of great atmosphere and character, perched atop a small hill just outside Galle Fort. The hotel has only 13 rooms comprising two suites and eleven standard rooms. There is a large courtyard with pond, a swimming pool set further away and surrounded by trees and shrubs, and a small spa, restaurant and living room in the main building.
Tamarind Hill is calm and peaceful, very romantic and historic, and would suit honeymoon and older couples as opposed to families. The rooms are nicely appointed and spacious enough, with private terraces, but the suites are gloriously furnished and absolutely gigantic: the bathrooms are as big as the large bedrooms, and each suite has a huge balcony.
Tamarind Hill is one of our and our clients’ favourites for its authentic colonial ambience, unobtrusive service and sense of calm and contentment. It will suit those looking for a quiet oasis in Galle.

Visit Dutch colonial Galle Fort with its ramparts, museums, small colonial streets and well preserved period buildings, some going back to the 17th century, others dating from the 1930s.

This is a great option for those wanting to explore Galle Fort but not stay inside the old town’s ramparts. Definitely opt for one of the two huge suites (if available and your budget allows): they are magnificent, with huge bathrooms and massive balconies – true colonial splendour.

Our favourite hotel with first class service – excellent English from all staff and interesting conversations as they welcomed us and brought our food. We enjoyed the colonial style and photos of earlier times. Meals were particularly nice and the whole experience was restful and calm. We got a good rest – exactly what was needed. Very relaxing pool and we loved eating meals outside.
