We are passionate supporters of wildlife conservation

Durrell Wildlife Conservation

We have long supported the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (formerly the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust) in its invaluable work in aiding conservation worldwide.

The Trust runs captive breeding projects and an international education programme for conservationists from many countries, perpetuating its founder’s ideals through local projects to the benefit of those countries in particular and the natural world in general.

Belize Audubon Society

The Belize Audubon Society is, as always, supported by us in its valiant efforts to conserve Belize’s natural treasures. Now in its fourth decade, it was the founding conservation organisation in Belize, and its invaluable work has led to the gazetting of numerous national parks and reserves. Belize Audubon Society also leads the fight against unsustainable developments in Belize, such as cruise ship ports and captive dolphin displays, and relies solely on private support.

Environmental Investigation Agency

The Environmental Investigation Agency is laudable for their often dangerous work in trying to curb the cruel pet trade in wild animals and body parts, exposing illegal logging and fighting mass killings of porpoises. The EIA also helps fund training for local activists and officials who are their eyes and ears in the continuing battle against man’s relentless degradation of his environment.

International Fund for Animal Welfare

The International Fund for Animal Welfare strives to prevent animal cruelty and abuse, protect wildlife and provide animal rescue around the world. From stopping the elephant ivory trade, to ending the Canadian seal hunt and saving the whales from extinction, IFAW works to create solutions that benefit both animals and people.

The Shark Trust

A laudable local conservation partner is the Plymouth-based Shark Trust. Although sharks are not the most obvious subjects for conservation, their position at the top of the marine food chain makes them of paramount importance for the general well-being of the oceans, and ultimately our own. Disturbing developments in recent years have led to their sharp decline in most parts of the world, raising an urgent need for action to combat the mass slaughter of those fascinating, primeval creatures.

Friends of the Dart

A new project, local to us, Friends of the Dart aims to protect a river that’s close to our hearts here at Reef and Rainforest. The key objective of the organisation is to resolve the ongoing sewage pollution issues in the River Dart. In doing so, they aim to inspire and enable many more people to safely enjoy the river and its beautiful surroundings. Working alongside other stakeholders to shine a light on the issue of river pollution, they want regulatory changes to eradicate sewage spills. There has been assurance that the local water company wants the same, and that through constructive collaboration this goal can be achieved. Being connected to the freely available River Dart and its natural environment has huge physical and mental health benefits – this connection in turn inspires individuals to care and together positive steps can be taken towards the resolution of river pollution. Once improvements in the water quality have been recorded, people involved in other river activities will be encouraged to take positive steps with appropriate careful guidelines and advice provided, to make sure that people’s safety, the river’s ecology, and its landscape are all protected. This admirable group of local people advocates for our wonderful River Dart.
