Europe is home to some remarkable wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Many wildlife habitats are now better protected and in the process of being rewilded to restore biodiversity on a larger scale. Some of the highlights to be discovered include charismatic mammals such as lynx, wildcat, wolf, wolverine, brown bear, wild boar, chamois, ibex, elk and bison, while the birdwatching and invertebrate life is also outstanding. There are also rich marine ecosystems home to large concentrations of whales, dolphins, seals, seabirds and even sharks. Closer to home, South West England has a wide range of landscapes and supports some of the best bird, mammal, reptile invertebrate, fish and plant life in England and now has two populations of wild beavers.
