The Dutch House & Sun House

Scroll

The Dutch House and Sun House are sister establishments situated very close to each other on a hill outside Galle Fort, each with its own unique character and history but both providing boutique hotel elegance, privacy and authentic colonial style.

The Dutch House: The older of the two dating from 1712, the colonial official’s residence was once known as Doornberg and contains only four air-conditioned suites with four poster beds and spacious bathrooms, airy common areas furnished with antiques, well-tended garden and a refreshing infinity pool. The Dutch House oozes history and charm and provides the ultimate in boutique chic.

The Sun House: British colonial in origin – built in 1870 and once the home of a Scottish spice merchant – it occupies a larger building than its sister, with seven lovely suites and rooms, fine dining restaurant serving delicious fusion dishes, pool, eclectic library, two lush gardens, cocktail bar and massage service.

Facilities

Each house has a swimming pool, lounge area, gardens, views and free WiFi but both share the restaurant at Sun House for exquisite dinners and Dick’s Bar for great cocktails.

Optional Activities

Visit Dutch colonial Galle Fort with its ramparts, museums, small colonial streets and well preserved period buildings, some going back to the 17th century, others dating from the 1930s.

We were absolutely thrilled by the whole experience and can only commend the helpfulness and friendliness of everyone who made our holiday so special. We cannot speak highly enough of all of our guides who were extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to enhance  our Sri Lankan wildlife encounters. We felt very privileged to be with guides who have so much expertise.
