El Remanso Lodge – located on Costa Rica’s southwest Pacific side of the Osa Peninsula, an area well known as one of the world’s most pristine and biodiverse rainforests –  was designed with strict ecological policies in mind. It has been a pioneer in sustainable practices in the since its creation in 1999. The lodge was one of the first in Costa Rica to provide its electricity exclusively by its own micro-hydro system. They also reduce their environmental impact by recycling waste, composting, treating waste waters and participating in local reforestation programs on the Osa Peninsula. El Remanso also has close ties with the community and provides work for over 30 local staff all year around.

There are varying room options to suit all parties: four standard rooms are available on the ground floor of Casa Poniente, whilst two superior rooms are situated on the top floor; three detached one bedroom bungalows can sleep up to five; two deluxe villas with private plunge pools; La Guinda is a one bedroom deluxe bungalow; La Vainilla is a two bedroom, two story villa; and Casa Osa is a four bedroom villa, ideal for small groups or large families of up to eight people.

Facilities

All rooms provide ocean, forest or canyon views, ensuite bathrooms with indoor and/or outdoor showers, terraces with wooden decking, hammocks, safety deposit boxes and ceiling fans.
There is an open air restaurant, lounge area, exchange library, swimming pool and bar

Local Wildlife

The Osa Peninsula is home to almost 3% of the Earth's flora, 323 species of plants and vertebrates found nowhere else on the planet, the largest population of Scarlet Macaws in Central America, over 4,000 vascular plants, more than 10,000 species of insects, roughly 800 species of trees, 463 bird species, 140 different mammals including 25 species of dolphins and whales, 4 kinds of sea turtles nesting on the beaches.
