Explora Atacama Lodge

Scroll

This five star lodge operated by Explora is located on a 42 acre property, immediately outside the town of San Pedro de Atacama.

The 50 rooms are contained within three buildings, positioned around a central courtyard shaded by large trees, with a building for the communal spaces completing this square. Spectacular views of the Atacama’s volcanic mountain chain can be appreciated from here.

The rooms are stylish and contemporary, and come with either garden or countryside views. Four outdoor swimming pools, with spa facilities, and beautiful grounds with ancient pathways provide a relaxing space to enjoy the exquisite surroundings.

Dining at the Explora Atacama Lodge restaurant is a truly gastronomic experience, with its ‘desert menu’ having been designed by award winning chef Virgilio Martinez.

San Pedro, which lies at an altitude of 2400 metres, is just a few minutes’ walk away. This charming, small town has a good choice of restaurants and shops, whilst revealing those exceptional distant views as you turn every street corner.

Additionally, the area is world famous for its star gazing potential.

Our first day of puma tracking was definitely the highlight. The weather was good and we saw distant pumas in the morning and a group of six around a guanaco kill in the afternoon. Spending 2.5 hours watching the interactions between the different individuals was fascinating.
