Fort Bazaar

Scroll

After your perambulations, escape the hot streets of Galle Fort at this 18-bedroom renovated colonial townhouse hotel, beautifully built around a private courtyard and boasting the acclaimed Church Street Social restaurant and bar, library and the relaxing Z Spa.

Located in the heart of Galle Fort, Fort Bazaar is perfect for guests looking to soak up the picturesque town’s legendary atmosphere, perhaps a spot of gem shopping or walking the walls of the 300 year-old ramparts. Once occupied by spice, tea and gem traders but since fallen into disrepair, Fort Bazaar underwent an incredible renovation and is now one of Galle Fort’s most attractive boutique hotels.

All rooms are tastefully designed and well-equipped, and the Banyan bedrooms and Upper suites both boast stunning views of the fort from their private verandas or balconies.

The hotel’s restaurant, The Church Street Social,  is heralded as one of the best on the south coast, offering a host of international dishes throughout the day and delicious middle-eastern inspired cuisine in the evenings.

Facilities

Rooms include breakfast, afternoon tea, minibar soft drinks, afternoon tea and an evening mocktail. All have four poster beds, cable television, coffee machines and en-suite bathrooms.

Optional Activities

Try your hand at Sri Lankan mask making with a local artist, or take local cooking lessons from the restaurant’s chefs. Within the Fort, visit museums, galleries and shops, take a tea tasting session or enjoy a massage. Guided cycling and walking tours are available, as are excursions for whale watching, diving and snorkelling.

[Our guide] was brilliant. Always on time and very helpful. All transfers were great. The bird watching trip was excellent and our guide was great at spotting birds. The elephant orphanage was also great.
