Gaya Island Resort
Gaya Island Resort is a luxury beach side escape, one of the newest hotels in Borneo and the only member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Conveniently located just a 15-minute boat ride from Kota Kinabalu on the beautiful Gaya Island, this is a wonderful spot to end an adventure-filled itinerary in Sabah.
Accommodation is in double rooms organised into blocks of four, with either mangrove, canopy, or mountain view available. Each 47 square metre villa features a spacious bedroom, a writing desk, a safe box, a flat screen television with satellite channels, a large open bathroom with an oversized bathtub and two vanity units, and an outdoor verandah with day beds. Please note a 20RM (approx £4) per person per night conservation fee is payable locally and will be added to your bill. Some of the rooms are located quite far up the hill, so for any guests with accessibility issues a canopy room closer to the main resort would be most suitable.
The main area features an infinity pool, pool bar, and small beach area. There is a private beach a short boat ride away, which guests can visit to enjoy a more peaceful scene and visit the wildlife center there with its own rescued turtle. The main restaurant serves three meals a day, with local and international fare available. There is also a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant and fine dining seafood option available for dinners, which must be booked in advance.
Facilities
Rooms are all ensuite, with a large bathroom and dressing room as well as private balcony; wifi; television and air conditioning. The resort offers three restaurants, two bars, diving and watersports centre, wildlife center, swimming pool, gym, library and private beach.

Diving, snorkelling and kayaking are available. The resort also offers a variety of daily activities including yoga; meditation; nature talks and treks.

Be sure to visit the wildlife center and chat to the highly knowledgeable resident naturalist. Many snake species have been found around the resort so keep an eye out!
