Local Wildlife
Located upon the boundary between Sri Lanka’s wet and dry zones, Udawalawe has great diversity of flora and fauna. Indian elephants can be seen both within the national park and at the local elephant orphanage. Udawalawe is renowned as a great bird watching site, as well as being home to leopards, fishing cats, sloth bear, sambar deer, water buffalo and wild boar.
Optional Activities
Excursions are available to the elephant orphanage and Udawalawe national park, both of which allow guts to experience Sri Lanka’s fascinating and varied wildlife. Cultural excursions are also on offer, including trips to Udawalawe village and Maduwanwela Walawwa – a local nobleman’s historic residence.
