Chilean Patagonia
Hosteria Catalina
When travelling along Chile’s Carretera Austral, the town of Hornopiren makes an obvious choice for an overnight stop, before boarding the ferry in the morning to continue south. The location of the town also allows for magnificent views of the Hornopiren volcano.
Hosteria Catalina is a comfortable lodge with a homely feel. Rooms and communal spaces are rustic but clean and warm. The Wi-Fi connection is good and its hugely welcoming owners are happy to help you with any local or regional information and advice you require. As well as the double or twin rooms, there are private bungalows, ideal for families or groups.
The shops and restaurants of the town centre are only a short walk away, whilst the hostels close proximity to the ferry terminal mean that your commute to the water’s edge in the morning should be quick and hassle free.

Our first day of puma tracking was definitely the highlight. The weather was good and we saw distant pumas in the morning and a group of six around a guanaco kill in the afternoon. Spending 2.5 hours watching the interactions between the different individuals was fascinating.
