Hotel Grano de Oro

Scroll

Ideally located only 20 minutes from the international airport and 10 minutes from the domestic airport, this luxurious boutique hotel is one of the best in San Jose. Originally founded by a Canadian couple who loved Costa Rica as a holiday destination, the tropical Victorian style building opened its doors as a hotel in 1991. Following three extensive renovations, today the Hotel Grano de Oro (meaning grain of gold) boasts 39 bedrooms, as well as a gourmet restaurant in a separate adjoined building, heralded as one of the finest in the city.

Standard bedrooms have queen-sized beds, and are small but functional with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay in a lovely hotel. Superior rooms are slightly larger, with the deluxe patio, two bed and King categories all being slightly larger again and offering particular features as described by their name. The family suite features two adjoining bedrooms and a shared bathroom, sleeping up to five. The luxurious garden suite offers a king sized bedroom, seating area and private tropical garden courtyard. The signature Vista de Oro suite is accessed by a private staircase, and lives up to its name with exquisite views of the Central Valley skyline. This suite feels like stepping back in time to the turn of the 19th century when the hose was built, and is opulently decorated with beautiful antiques. Facilities include a king sized bed and Jacuzzi bath.

The Restaurante Grano de Oro and on site bar are located in an adjoining building to the rooms. Offering French Mediterranean and tropical influenced cuisine featuring locally produced ingredients, the restaurant is hugely popular with locals and tourists alike. Indoor and outdoor courtyard seating options are available, as well as private dining rooms for groups or functions. To accompany the delicious cuisine, the hotel has an impressive stocked wine cellar, featuring over 165 bottles, each of which has been hand-picked to complement the menus.

Facilities

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and fans, safety deposit boxes, flat-screen TVs, robes, minibar, hairdryer, telephone and coffee maker. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. There is complementary secure parking and luggage storage, gift shop, restaurant, bar, private dining, wine cellar, room service, Jacuzzi terrace and massage services.

Optional Activities

As the cultural heart of the country, the night life in San Jose offers a variety of options for entertainment. There are dance clubs, bars, restaurants, cinemas and a cultural agenda with artists of international reputation and very interesting performances. The National Symphony Orchestra performs several presentations throughout the year, usually these are held at the National Theatre. Another option is the Jazz Club in EscazĂș, located just 15 minutes from the hotel. The hotel also offers local excursions, including coffee tours, rainforest tours, zip-lining adventure days, white water rafting, boat trips to Tortgua Island or visiting the Poas volcano and La Paz waterfall gardens. Guided or self-guided tours of the city are also an option.
