House of Rumbak Wildlife Lodge

Scroll

The House of Rumbak Wildlife Lodge offers a unique and immersive stay in traditional mud and stone houses with flat roofs and a communal living area. Located at an elevation of 3960 metres within the breathtaking landscapes of Hemis National Park, this lodge offers guests the rare opportunity to spot the elusive snow leopard in its natural habitat.

Guests are allocated one of six private cottages, all thoughtfully furnished with carpeted floors, comfortable mattresses adorned with thick Ladakhi blankets, and pillows. A Bukhara-style wood-burning chiminea heater adds warmth and a touch of rustic charm. Warming, home-cooked food is prepared and served in the communal dining and lounge area, including Ladakhi, Indian and international dishes.

Facilities

The six cottages have underfloor heating, insulated roofs, traditional wood stoves, double glazed windows, heated blankets, and private bathrooms with hot and cold running water.

Local Wildlife

The village is close to several snow leopard hotspots and herds of blue sheep are common in the area attracting the predators. Woolly hare, Royale's pika, red fox, Tibetan wolf and Eurasian lynx are also in the area. Birds include lammergier, Himalayan griffon vulture, golden eagle, red-billed and alpine chough, several species of snowfinch and Himalayan snowcock.
