Colombian Caribbean
Mountain House
This mountain lodge is beautifully situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The simple yet idyllic guesthouse sits at 1,640 metres above sea level and is well located to explore the birding meccas of Minca and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park.
The lodge comprises one building set across two floors, with a large veranda overlooking a flower-filled garden with hummingbird and fruit feeders, and beautiful panoramic views towards the Caribbean. The sunsets can be stunning! From the lower veranda a series of hummingbird feeders provide a spectacular display and it is easy to spend hours here honing hummingbird photography skills!
The eight simply furnished ensuite rooms are divided between both floors with large windows overlooking the verandas. Meals are served in a spacious dining room with a small bar, and open kitchen where tasty home-cooked meals are prepared.
As well as extremely productive birding from the lodge and its environs, it is a two hour drive by 4WD up to Cuchillo de San Lorenzo ridge where a number of Santa Marta endemics can be seen.
