The Panoramic View Hotel stands high on Lalibela Mountain, commanding breath-taking views of the surrounding Ethiopian highlands and countryside in all directions. It is fantastically locates only a 10 minute walk from the famous churches of Lalibela, with many restaurants, artisan shops, and bars located nearby. As the name of the hotel implies, the views dazzle guests from dawn to dusk, offering a panoramic view of both the city of Lalibela and the Ethiopian countryside.
The hotel’s rooms are simple, clean and spacious, and available as single, twin, double, triple or suites. Each room boasts its own private balcony, each with wonderful views of the surrounding area. The hotel’s restaurant offers traditional Ethiopian food, made using seasonal local produce. Meals can be enjoyed inside the restaurant or upon the roof terrace. Each night, there is a bonfire on the rooftop terrace alongside a complimentary coffee ceremony and ‘tej,’ Ethiopia’s famous honey-wine. The coffee ceremony is one of Ethiopia’s proudest and most memorable traditions, so guests are encouraged to participate. For foodie guests, Ethiopian cooking classes are available from the head chef.
The hotel staff are happy to help guests make the most of their tame in this magical area, and can arrange language-specific tours with professional guides for the11 rock-hewn churches of the remarkable King Lalibela. During this tour, guests can visit the Northwestern Cluster of churches – Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael andBet Golgotha – and the Southeastern Cluster of Lalibela churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, you will be able to visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis – a huge, monolithic rock, carved in the shape of a cross, and constructed in honour of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia. Three are also churches slightly further from the hotel, which can be visited if guests spend more time in the area.
