Primate Lodge Kibale
Located in the forest right by the headquarters of the Kibale Forest National Park, this is the best located lodge for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. In fact, chimpanzees have often been seen in the trees and trails around the lodge itself.
The park is home to 13 species of primate including the Uganda mangabey, Ugandan red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus and blue monkey. Home to arguably Africa’s best chimpanzee trekking, there are over 120 individuals within the main habituated community, divided into various sub-groups.
The lodge has nine comfortable large cottages tucked away in the forest, each with en suite facilities, seating area and large balcony or veranda looking out on the forest. Additionally, there is the ‘Honeymoon cottage’. There is a central bar and restaurant serving both international and traditional African dishes.

A real gem. Perfect location for our chimp activity. We were the only guests, and the staff could not have been more attentive. We saw red-tailed, blue, and red colobus monkeys on site. One evening while we drank waragi and tonics a troop of red-tails put on an acrobatic display high in the trees by the lodge, presumably returning to their nocturnal abode. We loved this place.
