Red Panda Outpost

Scroll

Set just across the border in Nepal, in the peaceful Buddhist village of Jaubari at 9,400 feet, Red Panda Outpost fits easily into itineraries through India’s Eastern Himalaya and provides excellent access to the forests of Singalila National Park. Once a family‑run teahouse, it has been transformed into a cosy base for wildlife enthusiasts exploring the forests of the India-Nepal border. The traditional wooden house, warmed by a central bukhari stove, offers welcome comfort after days on mist-shrouded trails in search of the endangered red panda. With just six rooms, each with an attached bathroom, the lodge blends rustic Himalayan charm with essential modern comforts.

Rooted in a sustainable community‑tourism model, Red Panda Outpost supports local livelihoods while helping protect Singalila’s fragile ecosystem. Single‑use plastics have been eliminated, and meals showcase the flavours of Darjeeling and nearby Nepali mountain villages. Guided by experienced local trackers, guests can enjoy red panda searches, birdwatching, gentle trekking, and cultural encounters in surrounding villages.
