Saandani Safari Lodge
Saadani Safari Lodge is an exclusive tent and thatch camp perched on the beach just outside the Saadani National Park providing a perfect safari and beach combination.
Accommodation is in nine private beachfront bandas and one suite with large balconies and hammocks overlooking the Indian Ocean. The rooms are well equipped with private bathrooms, high comfort four poster beds, safety deposit box, fan and lounge area.
Facilities at the lodge include an excellent restaurant specialising in wonderful fresh seafood, a well-stocked bar and an inviting swimming pool. Saadani Safari Lodge also has involvement in a local project to protect nesting green turtles along its immediate stretch of coast. Activities include safaris in the National Park where a variety of game including elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, waterbuck and bushbuck are often spotted. Smaller species such as genets, civets, porcupines and yellow baboons are also frequent sightings. Both lion and leopard are present in the park but are seen less often here than in other parks.
Boat safaris are offered along the Wami River which is particularly good for crocodiles and hippos. Walking safaris and cultural activities such as visits to Maasai and Saadani communities are also available. It is possible to swim and snorkel straight from the beach.

If you are an early riser, head out to the beach at dawn and look for fresh tracks. You’ll be surprised how many animals visit the beach at night.

Big thanks to Jonathan Morris for preparing an excellent trip – one of our favourite holidays to date. The guide at Sand River couldn’t do enough to ensure we saw and did everything of interest. The guides were very happy to do walking safaris, and we fit in a walk every day, as well as some boating and fishing trips.
