Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is a lavish community-owned lodge in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains with outstanding views towards the mighty peaks of Volcanoes National Park. The lodge is now operated by the Governor’s Camp chain of east African safari lodges.
Accommodation is in eight private and spacious cottages, built with local stone and benefitting from 24 hour electricity. Each cottage has a separate bedroom, dressing room, living room with open fireplace, en suite bathroom with hot water shower and bathtub, and small balcony with stunning views towards the skyline of volcanic cones in the park. The main building houses the restaurant which serves tasty local and continental cuisine. There is also a well-stocked bar, library, games room and sitting area.

The Volcanoes National Park is an area of incredibly beautiful scenery with a skyline of volcanic cones ringed by forests giving way to fertile farming terraces. Your gorilla trekking is usually finished by lunchtime. If still feeling energetic, ask your driver to take you to the nearby twin lakes of Lake Bulera and Lake Ruhondo for some great walking and beautiful views.

This is just a quick… note to tell you what a fabulous time we had in Rwanda with Janice Booth. We have been to some stunning places before (many of them through you), but Rwanda captivated us in so many different ways that it beats the lot! We expected, of course, to he wowed by the gorillas – but they managed to exceed our expectations. To be so close to such awesome creatures in the wild is not an experience we are likely to forget. What really took us by surprise was the warmth of the welcome that we received from the people…The country itself is beautiful…so much diversity…Janice was terrific and [the local guide] was delightful. We could not have asked for a better team.
