Lying 200kms east of Maun and 100kms west of Nata is the small town of Gweta, offering budget accommodation which makes the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and Nxai Pan National Park accessible to those who can’t afford to fly in. Both lodges in this area offer day excursions and overnight trips by game drive vehicle to the salt pans, about 2 to 2 ½ hours away. Neither lodge is located on the pans themselves, but excursions are easy to organise, as well as to Nxai Pan. Cultural village visits can also be organised from these lodges to local schools and cattle posts, providing insights into traditional life in Botswana.
