Highlights of Namibia

Purros Conservancy

Scroll

The Purros Conservancy in Kaokaoland is a beautiful wilderness based around a rural village next to the Hoarusib River, 55km east of the Skeleton Coast and approximately 200km south of the Kunene River. The area is home to the Himba tribe, nomadic pastoralists with a culture that is fast being usurped by modern ways. The transition between traditional and new ways of life can be clearly seen in Purros.

The Purros is perfect for nature drives along the ephemeral Hoarusib riverbed and into nearby mountains for a chance to see desert-adapted elephants, giraffe, baboons and springbok, and a stop at a spectacular look-out point for views over the vast wilderness. Accessible only by 4×4 or light aircraft, Purros makes for a different and exclusive safari experience far away from the more popular wildlife reserves.
