Fugitives’ Drift Lodge

Scroll

This family owned lodge is set in a 5000 acre game reserve, and benefits from breathtaking views over Zululand, where abundant wildlife resides. The Oscarberg Mountain is the prominent feature in the landscape, standing tall among the grassy plains. Each of the ten lodge rooms has a spacious veranda that looks out over the Buffalo River gorge and surrounding plains.

The Anglo-Zulu war of 1879 is brought to life at this historic location, where battlefield tours, talks, and a small museum allow you to take stock of the conflicts that occurred here. Two notorious battles took place in quick succession at Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift – both close by and definitely worth a visit.

Superb cuisine is enjoyed in a communal setting, either in the large dining room or out on the open deck, whilst an outdoor swimming pool rewards you with both a cooling off in addition to magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.

We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. Leopard View was fantastic. The guide did his upmost for us and the rest of the game viewing was great. We saw everything that we wanted to see.
