The M/V Ortelius is a tough, ice-strengthened expedition ship operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, built in 1989 for the Russian Academy of Sciences. Named after cartographer Abraham Ortelius, it now carries up to 108 passengers on polar adventures in the Arctic and Antarctic. With open-deck views, a lecture room, and even helicopter access, it’s well equipped for exploring remote, icy frontiers and spotting wildlife along the way.

Facilities

Restaurant, bar, lounge, lecture room, observation decks, open bridge, sauna, gym, helideck (used as open deck space or for helicopter operations on select voyages), Zodiac boats for excursions, library, and onboard medical clinic.

Optional Activities

Shore excursions, Zodiac cruises, kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, mountaineering, field camping, birdwatching, wildlife observation, photography workshops, interactive lectures, exhibitions, citizen science programs, stargazing and astronomy-themed voyages, onboard entertainment, and cultural presentations.
